My partner said that the purification of Natural Products is like an art works. Why its called art works? There are so many ways to purify a crude sample, esp natural products. All natural products begin as mixtures with other compounds from the
natural source, often very complex mixtures, from which the product of
interest must be isolated and purified. The isolation of a
natural product refers, depending on context, either to the isolation of
sufficient quantities of pure chemical matter for chemical structure
elucidation, derivatization/degradation chemistry, biological testing,
and other research needs.
The methods of isolation generally involve extraction, precipitation, adsorptions, chromatography, and sometimes crystallization. Yesterday, I did column chromatography in order to isolate my target compound. And here is the pictures. It takes a long time, but this picts is pretty enough, isn't it? :D
