Hydropower: A promising source of Sustainable energy
As we all know, due to the exponential growth of population, an adverse impact is mainly seen on the scarcity of hygienic food resulting in the under nutrition of the people. This in other ways can also be linked with the contrast between the urban and rural policies in terms of sustainability. So, the main goal of formulating this master plan is to consider the development of multidisciplinary approach for the sustainability of food and nutrition as well as minimization of the contrasting factors for the simultaneous development of urban and rural areas. For this reason, we propose Hydropower plant as a source of renewable energy, which is just the harnessing the power from the moving water there is no any consumption of water. This clean energy source promotes the price stability and has flexibility in construction and operation. There is reduction in CO2 emission and is a fundamental factor for sustainable development. Also, micro hydro power plant has low cost in terms of power generation in comparison to solar, wind, coal and diesel based power plant.
Similarly, this sector can also overcome the adverse impacts related to the sustainability. In terms of sustainability in food and nutrition, we set up the target in terms of hunger reduction, enhancement of agricultural productivity and upgrading the lifestyle of the smallholder farmers.
For instance, in relation to development of aquaculture, a small scale fish pond can be constructed with the provision of some water treatment facility so that the clean water is ultimately discharged back to the river again. Similarly, with the construction of reservoir dam, electricity can be generated, which can be supplied to the national grid and there is the uniform distribution of electricity in both urban and rural areas. Likewise, the discharged water from the tailrace can be used in the irrigation purpose and this will boost up the crop productivity. Also, we can separate a certain area for the development of cattle farm. The agricultural residues from the crop lands can be fed to the animals and we can then valorize the animal products as well as the by-products. In the area of the fish pond, we can develop a community cafe and promote the special menu of fish dish. These all sectors can then be related to the eco-tourism.
In an alternate way, we can develop a Hydrogen power plant from the water using the galvanized cell. The hydrogen fuel cells have higher efficiency than gasoline electrics as well as steam and gas turbines.
In conclusion, the one and only factor here is boosting up the Economic growth and human development through the promotion of sustainable energy. So, we should try to develop multi-stakeholder planning process for fostering green energy certification system.

  2. I was excited to read this post. I would like to get your thoughts on an idea I have for a housing development in the planning stage.

    The 200 acre piece of property slopes towards the end of a lake that ties into a creek bed. The homes and the streets will all be built on a sloped grade

    I'm hoping for the development to be off the grid; completely independent from utility providers

    I was thinking of placing a reservoir at the bottom of the development, and using rain water to keep it filled. We'd also have a back up well for dry seasons

    We're located in the Midwest, and get a good deal of rain and snow. If the moving water ended up in one channel, do you think we could collect enough energy to make it worth the cost to install a hydro powered unit?
